Meet Tammy!

A bit about me

Hi, my name is Tammy Neal and I have the privilege of being the chaplain here at St Bernard’s. I am married to Peter my fabulous and very patient husband and have 6 wonderful grown-up children and 6 equally wonderful grandchildren.

What do I do?

The role of a chaplain is incredibly varied and no two days are ever the same. My primary focus is to ensure the well-being of the students and staff that I serve here at school. I journey alongside them, celebrate with them during times of joy and sit with them during times of struggle.

I am blessed to work in a school that has faith at the very centre of all it does. My inspiration is the good Lord himself, Jesus. I absolutely LOVE Jesus! His ‘real’ work or His ministry only lasted for 3 years and it was all based around people. He walked alongside His disciples; he connected with real people. You never hear about Him rushing off to get a job done or turning someone away because He was too busy. People didn’t go to Him because He was holy or because He was the son of God, they went to Him because He welcomed them without judgement or bias. What a role model!

What else do I do?

I try to bring a bit of fun into school. As I don’t teach, I have the freedom to create and develop opportunities for students and staff to enjoy themselves. These include retreat days, residential trips, pilgrimages and fundraising activities to name a few.

We pride ourselves on the excellent relationships we have with our partner primary schools,  working closely on joint projects that are underpinned by our shared ethos. These positive experiences ensure a smooth transition to St Bernard’s.

Catholic Life

As a Catholic school we celebrate our faith through masses, liturgies, prayer and worship. I try and provide a varied calendar of events that enable students and staff to explore, develop and express their faith, encouraging open, honest and friendly discussions where all views are valued and respected.
