Baby Basics Fundraising

During Lent in 2023 we chose Baby Basics as one of our fundraising charities. Baby Basics is a volunteer-led project aiming to support new mothers and families who are struggling to meet the financial and practical burden of looking after a new baby. Baby Basics started in Sheffield in the spring of 2009, this center continues to support families across Sheffield working with a wide range of frontline health and social care professionals. There is an ever-increasing network of Baby Basics centers across the country each staffed by a committed team of volunteers. Baby Basics provides much needed essentials and equipment to mothers and families who are unable to provide these items for themselves; including but not limited to teenage mums, people seeking asylum and women fleeing domestic abuse and trafficking.

The response from the students and staff was overwhelming and we had to make 3 trips to Sheffield with all the donations that were brought in. Students also raised £500, which was presented to the center.

Advent Hospital gifts

Each year during Advent students collect gifts for children and elderly patients who will be spending Christmas in hospital. This all started from one student who had a relative in hospital and couldn’t bear the thought of them waking up on Christmas morning with no gift at the end of their bed! Buying gifts for patients has now become an annual event, and we receive many photos and letters from the recipients of these gifts.

Hello Yellow – Young Minds Mental Health

Once again students and staff dressed in Yellow to show support and awareness for the mental health charity young minds. The sheer scale of the problem faced by young people with mental health issues can feel overwhelming. More young people than ever before need support for their mental health and accessing that support quickly, can make a critical difference to those young people. We are proud to support Young Minds and our Graffiti Board – ‘You are not alone’ was a great hit with the students
