Curriculum Overview – Year 9
As an introduction to the GCSE course, the Year 9 curriculum is designed to be the foundation students need to be confident performers, successful reflectors and begin to understand the independence skills required to devise scripts, rehearse and perform.
Students will apply their knowledge and skills to a mock assessment before undertaking the first learning aim of component one: Exploring the Performing Arts.
Curriculum Overview – Year 10
As a continuation from Year 9, the Year 10 actors will complete a number of components that will shape them as a performer, build confidence, enable them to critically reflect on their performance and rehearsal skills and give them techniques and skills that will challenge them to improve on their ability. Students will complete the whole component of Exploring the Performing Arts before moving on to the study of component two: Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts. In the summer term students will experience a trial run of component three: Responding to a Brief in preparation for Year 11.
Curriculum Overview – Year 11
As a continuation from Year 10, the Year 11 actors will begin the year by completing component two before moving on to component three in January. Students will work with performers and attend workshops to provide real life experiences and to allow the students to speak with others that are in or have worked in the industry. The completion of their BTEC qualification will establish them as a performer, continue to build confidence, enable them to critically reflect on their performance and rehearsal skills and give them techniques and skills that will challenge them to improve their ability. These skills will give students the confidence to audition for level 3 vocational skills or related A-Levels.
