Curriculum Overview – Year 9
As an introduction to the GCSE course, the Year 9 curriculum is designed to be the foundation students need to be confident performers, successful reflectors and begin to understand independence skills required to devise scripts, rehearse and perform. Through the autumn term students will develop their dance technique and apply this to a devised piece of work as part of their class for a performance. Students will then experience different dance techniques that can be applied to their component one: Exploring the Performing Arts.
Curriculum Overview – Year 10
As a continuation from Year 9, the Year 10 dancers will complete a number of components that will shape them as a performer, build confidence, enable them to critically reflect on their performance and rehearsal skills and give them techniques and skills that will challenge them to improve their ability. Students will complete the whole component of Exploring the Performing Arts before moving on to the study of component two: Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts. In the summer term students will experience a trial run of component three: Responding to a Brief in preparation for Year 11.
Curriculum Overview – Year 11
As a continuation from Year 10, the Year 11 dancers will complete all components for their BTEC qualification. Students will work with performers and attend workshops to provide real life experiences and to allow the students to speak with others that are in or have worked in the industry. The completion of their course will establish them as a performer, continue to build confidence, enable them to critically reflect on their performance and rehearsal skills and give them techniques and skills that will challenge them to improve their ability. These skills will give students the confidence to audition for level 3 vocational skills or A-Levels.
