Our House System

‘We strive to be fully inclusive with outstanding pastoral care. Each student is known as an individual and we will bring out the best in them through the work that we do together.’

Every pupil at St. Bernard’s is assigned to a form group in the care of a Form Tutor. The tutor holds a key position in the life of St. Bernard’s and is the first point of contact between home and school. Their primary responsibility is to monitor the welfare of each pupil to ensure their academic, social and spiritual development. The tutor sees members of the form daily to establish and articulate clear expectations to each pupil in order to cultivate appropriate standards and attitudes for participation and success in all areas of school life.

The students are assigned to a tutor group of approx. 25 students. The students are also assigned to one of our four houses. The Houses are named after the Yorkshire Cistercian Abbeys founded by St. Bernard of Clairvaux, our Patron saint.

The houses are:

  • Fountains - Mrs A Hague
  • Kirkstall - Mrs E Price
  • Rievaulx - Mrs M Beaumont
  • Roche - Mrs C Davies

The Head of House has responsibility for the pastoral care and welfare of the students, in their House. They work with the students and their families to remove barriers to learning and secure positive outcomes, enabling our young people to become the best that they can be.
