Curriculum Overview – Year 9
All students that have opted for GCSE PE and BTEC Sport in Year 9 follow our foundation course that covers Planning and Leading a full Coaching session as well as a Performance Analysis Project that investigates students current performance levels in their chosen sport. Students also cover a practical curriculum designed to further develop their sporting skills in a number of sports and prepare them for moderation in Year 11 and are expected to participate in the school extra-curricular sporting programme. After Easter, students that continue to opt for GCSE PE will then begin to cover content from Paper 1: The human body and movement in physical activity and sport. Units include; Applied anatomy and physiology; Movement analysis.
Curriculum Overview – Year 10
Students in Year 10 will continue to follow a practical curriculum alongside being taught theoretical aspects of PE and continue to be expected to participate in the school extra-curricular sporting programme. In theory lessons the students will continue to cover content from Paper 1 before starting the content of Paper 2: Socio-cultural influences and well-being in physical activity and sport. Units include: Sports psychology; Socio-cultural influences; Health, fitness and well-being; Use of data. Students will also start their non-examined assessment (coursework).
Curriculum Overview – Year 11
In Year 11, students will undertake a deeper learning of the more demanding examination questions and further their learning on Paper 1 and 2. They will also complete their non-examined assessment. Students continue to be required to participate in the school extra-curricular sporting programme. Students will also spend time finalising their practical performances and preparation for Moderation later in the year.
